Offline Robot Programming

Visual Components Robotics (OLP)

Program industrial robots virtually, not on the floor: the line keeps running, collisions are checked, and programs reach the robot in its own language.

Robot programs are written before setting foot on the floor; the welding line is validated in simulation first

Visual Components Robotics (OLP)

Visual Components Robotics is offline robot programming (OLP) software: you prepare industrial robot programs in a virtual environment instead of on the floor. The program is written and tried on a computer while the robot keeps producing.

Ono Teknoloji is the authorised Visual Components distributor for Turkey and the Middle East.

What Is Offline Robot Programming?

The classic way to program a robot is to stop it and teach points one by one with the teach pendant; the line makes nothing meanwhile. In offline programming the robot cell is built in 3D, the paths are created on the computer, collisions and reach are checked virtually, and the finished program is translated into the robot’s own language and loaded.

How It Works

  1. The cell is modelled. Robot, fixtures, parts and surrounding equipment are built in 3D.
  2. Paths are created. Welding, cutting or surface-finishing paths are derived from the part’s geometry.
  3. The program is verified virtually. Reach, collisions and cycle time are checked on the computer while the robot keeps producing.
  4. The program goes to the robot. A post-processor translates it into the robot’s own language; it is verified on the floor and put into production.

Which Robots It Works With

Visual Components states that Robotics offers 17 post-processors, including KUKA, ABB, YASKAWA and FANUC. The library used to build the cell holds more than 1,600 robot models from more than 70 brands.

Benefits

  • Program robots without stopping the production line
  • Collision and reachability checks in a virtual environment
  • Process-specific application packages for welding, painting, and machining
  • Mistakes are found in the model, not in the cell; the robot goes live with a tested program

Visual Components states that offline programming is ten times faster than programming by hand.

How We Work

  • Licence and training: as the distributor we supply the licence, with training and onboarding support in Turkish.
  • Projects: for robotic cell investments, OLP is also the tool behind our smart factory design projects: we run the process together, from cell design to robot programming.
  • Virtual commissioning: the same cell model can be connected to a PLC to test the control logic before site: virtual commissioning.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is offline robot programming (OLP)?

Preparing robot programs on a computer, on a 3D model of the robot cell, instead of at the robot. The program is tried in the virtual cell, then translated into the robot's own language and loaded; meanwhile the robot keeps producing.

Which software is used for offline robot programming?

Visual Components Robotics is one of the programs used for it. Ono Teknoloji is the authorised Visual Components distributor for Turkey and the Middle East and provides licences, training in Turkish and project support.

Which robot brands does Visual Components Robotics support?

Visual Components states that it offers 17 post-processors, including KUKA, ABB, YASKAWA and FANUC. The library used to model the cell holds more than 1,600 robot models from more than 70 brands.

Does an OLP program need adjusting on the floor?

The program is verified on the floor, and points are touched up where the real cell differs from the model. The difference is that the program was prepared while the robot was still producing.
